Berube-obit-webMELROSE — Margaret A. “Peg” (Cassell) Berube, 79, of Melrose, died at home on March 15.

Peg was born and raised in Malden and a graduate of the Cheverus High School in Malden, Class of 1953. She resided in Melrose for 57 years and was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church in Melrose.

Peg volunteered and worked at the St. Mary Rectory for many years and enjoyed going out to the 621 Restaurant in Malden, playing Keno, scratch tickets, shopping, home decorating and was always “neat as a pin.”

Peg loved to spend time every summer at the Cutty Sark in York Beach, Maine, had a great sense of humor, was very generous and loved to send cards to family and her many friends.

Peg was the beloved wife of Robert N. Berube for 58 years. She was the loving mother of Kathleen Symes, Sandra Berube, both of Melrose, Michael Berube and his wife Robyn of New Hampshire, Judith Miskelly of Virginia, Paul Berube and his wife Betty of New Hampshire and the late Robert Berube Jr. She was the cherished grandmother of Carl, Ricky, Katie, Michael, Myranda, Zachary and Michael. She was the great-grandmother of Matthew, Emma, Max and Charlotte. She was the caring sister of Edna Mollins, Helen Walker, both of Melrose, Donald Cassell of Everett and the late Arlene Cassell. She was also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.

The funeral was from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Wednesday, March 18, at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, 55 Herbert St., Melrose, at 11:30 a.m.

Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
