ASHBURNHAM — Mary T. Gifford, 68, of Ashburnham, formerly of Jamaica Plain, died on Friday, August 20 at her residence.

Born in Boston on March 31, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Francis P. and Mary T. (Toomey) Welby.

Mrs. Gifford was raised in Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph High School. She had attended Boston State College. Mrs. Gifford had worked for over 40 years at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and retired as a manager.

She was the beloved wife of Joseph F. Gifford, devoted sister of Francis Welby, Matthew Welby, Joseph Welby, John Welby, Michael Welby, Catherine Walsh, Theresa Doyle, Patricia Sullivan, Dorothy Mucciarone and the late Margaret Welby, and sister-in-law of John A. Gifford, Catherine M. Gifford, Mary E. DiBattisto, Rosary Gifford, James M. Gifford, and Eileen Hughes. Mrs. Gifford is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces, and nephews.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Thursday at 10 a.m.
