Worked for Palm Springs mayors, including Sonny Bono

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Mary T. “Mae” Martin, 87, of Palm Springs, Calif. and formerly of East Boston died Feb. 13, 2016 in Palm Springs.
She was born in Boston on June 6, 1928 and was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas F. and Mary (Henry) Hankard. She was raised in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School. She had been a long time Palm Springs resident and served as the executive assistant for every Palm Springs mayor from 1955-1992, ending her tenure there with the late Sonny Bono as mayor.
Mrs. Martin was the beloved sister of the late Thomas F. Hankard Jr. of Boston, James A. Hankard of Medford and William A. Hankard of Wakefield. She is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews Deborah Hankard of Medford, Thomas F. Hankard of Canton, Candace Hankard Doucette of Lynnfield, James A. Hankard Jr. of Antrim, N.H., William A. Hankard Jr. of Wakefield, Cynthia Hankard Burke of Medford, Gary J. Hankard of Dunstable, William D. Hankard of Milton and Thomas F. Hankard of Orlando, Fla.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday, Feb. 27 beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
