MELROSE — The City of Melrose is sharing the following updates for the upcoming week:
Register to vote in the Nov. 5 election
The state, federal and presidential election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, with polls open for all registered Melrose voters at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 90 Melrose St., from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The deadline to register to vote is Saturday, October 26 at 5 p.m. Register in-person at City Hall or online at www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/.
Voters can cast their ballot in three ways: In-person Early Voting, Vote by Mail, or In-person on November 5, 2024. For more information, email elections@cityofmelrose.org or call (781) 979-4125.
Main Street tree trimming and closure Oct. 6
The Department of Public Works will perform routine tree pruning work along Main Street between East/West Foster Street and Grove Street on Sunday, October 6, weather permitting. This area of Main Street will be closed to vehicles from approximately 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Active work hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during which DPW vehicles and equipment will be used. This critical work will involve the removal of dead branches, and trimming of branches near windows, building facades and utility lines. Flu vaccines available on Oct. 9 and Oct. 29
The Melrose Department of Health and Human Services will offer free influenza vaccinations at the City- Wide Flu Clinic on Wednesday, October 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the Mayor’s Senior Resource Fair on Tuesday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events will be held at Melrose Memorial Hall, 590 Main St.
The regular Sanofi Pasteur Fluzone vaccine will be available for anyone over 5 years old and the high-dose vaccine will be available to individuals 65 yrs. and older. Final Barrel Take-Back and Rigid Plastics Recycling at City DPW Yard Oct. 12
The Department of Public Works will host a Barrel & Bin Take-Back and Rigid Plastics Recycling Day at the Melrose City Yard, 72 Tremont Street, on Saturday, October 12 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event is a way for residents to recycle or give away trash and recycling barrels which no longer comply with the City’s curbside collection program. Barrels and rigid plastics will also be accepted during normal City Yard hours on Monday, October 7, Tuesday, October 8, and Thursday, October 10.
