MELROSE—The Melrose Marching Band & Color Guard are excited to kick off their 2023 season, working hard to prepare for Melrose home football games and NESBA Competitions.
This year, travel on a journey with the band to Distant Horizons, their 2023 Competition Show. The show features Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsokav, Ritual Fire Dance by Manuel de Falla, Nothing is Lost by The Weeknd, and Caravan by Duke Ellington. Music is arranged by Melrose local musician and teacher, Jack Tully. The field drill is designed by Ed Devlin with accent elements added to the show by the band students. The music is challenging and drill compelling, highlighting the musical talent of the band with soloists throughout the show. The 2023 Melrose Band includes 68 students in grades 8-12, including 17 new members.
The Band’s Competition Season kicks off on September 23 in Medford and continues every Saturday, culminating with Finals at Lawrence Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sunday, November 5. SAVE THE DATE for the Band Competition on October 7th at our very own Fred Green Field in Melrose. This event is a fantastic opportunity to support your Melrose Marching Band and to see bands compete from across the state, including finale performances by the University of Massachusetts Lowell Marching Band and the Boston University Marching Band.
In addition to NESBA Competitions, the Melrose Band is ready for Friday night lights on Fred Green Field, engaging the crowd and cheering on our Melrose Football team with the first home game on September 15. Go Melrose, Beat Malden!
