STONEHAM—The Melrose boys cross-country team improved their record to 2-0 as they spun a 15-50 shutout over Watertown at home at Greenwood Park on Saturday, October 17.

Melrose junior Matt Fox led the way, covering the 2.7 mile Watertown course in a quick 15:09. Junior Will Dugan was 2nd in just 15:30, followed by senior Leighton Bailey who came across in at 15:40. Juniors Ryan Cotugno, 4th in 15:53, and junior Nick Sasso, 5th in 15:55, also broke the tough 16-minute mark.

Sophomore Ellis Iurilli-Hough was 6th in 16:12, and 7th went to sophomore Tyler Audet, who wrapped up the scoring with his 16:54 time. Also finishing near the top of this meet were Adam Drafts-Johnson,8th, Stone Liu in 10th, and Nick Dulling at 17:25. Caleb Miller had the top freshman time.

Coach Kevin Allison was pleased with the performance. “I like the way everyone was focused and ready to go despite the early time start and the rainy conditions. We have not had a chance to train in the rain this season so I was pleased how the team adapted and competed.”

The 2-0 team will face the undefeated Wakefield team next Saturday at home at Greenwood Park at 9:00 a.m.
