MELROSE—The Melrose Red Raider hockey team begins their Div. 1 North playoff run this Sunday in a competitive Div. 1 bracket that includes rivals such as Reading, Winchester and Burlington. All four teams were once considered for Super 8 prospects but only Middlesex Large Arlington made the cut.

Instead, Melrose draws a #2 seed after securing a final regular season record of 12-4-5.

At press time, Melrose was slated to play Sunday—possibly hosting—the winner of Thursday’s Billerica and Chelmsford game, at a time and location to be determined. Fans are encouraged to visit www.miaa.net for up to date information and also check our social media pages.

As their regular season wrapped up last week, Melrose battled some tough opposition and came up empty against opponents Xaverian and Masconomet. On Feb. 22 Masconomet (18-2) prevailed over Melrose, 4-2, at Kasabuski Rink in Saugus. Melrose also fell to Super 8 entree Xaverian, 4-0, on Tuesday Feb 19.

The Red Raiders hope to get back to their winning ways to make a run at a Div. 1 North title. To get there, Melrose may need to get through Winchester or Reading, possible future opponents who’d they face next week.

Stay tuned.
