MALDEN—The hardworking Melrose High girls’ swim team left it all in the water during their home meet against league rival Wakefield on Thursday, Oct. 5 at their home base of Malden High School. But they were eventually out-treaded by the Warriors, 98-54, despite some fine finishes by Melrose swimmers.
It was another strong day for Melrose’s Emilia Rahilly who took second in the 200 IM and 500 free distance races. Teammate Marta Francis also had a solid second place finish in the 100 back. Melrose’s 200 Medley relay team also kicked off the meet with a second place finish that gave Melrose four points, thanks to Tierra Pornkittichotcharoen, Marta Francis, Emilia Rahilly and Amara Otaluka.
In the 200 free Melrose saw solid swims by Fatima Mourchid and Amara Otaluka, while Sophia Cantwell had a good showing in the 200IM.
Melrose also showed some speed and agility in the 50 free with Tierra Pornkittichotcharoen having Melrose’s best finish, third, with teammates Lillian Blenk, Nora Mounsif and Mayah Derosena right behind her.
Marta Francis had a nice third place finish in the 100 free and teammates Fatima Mourchid and Lillian Blenk also swam well.
Melrose’s 200 free relay team of Sofia Cantwell, Nora Mounsif, Fatima Mourchid and Mayah Derosena had a good third place finish.
Melrose had a nice 100 back event behind the work of Tierra Pornkittichotcharoen, Sofia Cantwell and Amara Otaluka.
The team finished the day with a third place finish in the 400 free relay behind the work of Tierra Pornkittichotcharoen, Marta Francis, Lillian Blenk and Emilia Rahilly.
Melrose will travel to the Burbank YMCA on Saturday to take on the Reading Rockets and will host Winchester on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
