MELROSE — This Memorial Day, the Melrose Veterans’ Services Office, Veterans Advisory Board and Mayor Paul Brodeur invite the public to help decorate the graves of veterans with American flags on Saturday, May 27, at 9 a.m. at Wyoming Cemetery, located at 205 Sylvan St. *Please note that this event was previously scheduled for 10 a.m. and is now beginning at 9 a.m.

The decoration of graves is one way the community can help in honoring, remembering and respecting the sacrifices made by the brave men and women of the military and their families. After the decoration of graves, community members are invited to stay for the flag retirement ceremony. View the City’s full schedule of Memorial Day Ceremonies.

Memorial Day organizers are looking for a minimum of 11 volunteer groups, families, groups of friends, local businesses and community organizations, to help retire the flags and decorate veterans’ graves. To volunteer, please contact Roseanne Trionfi-Mazzuchelli, Director of Veterans Services for Melrose, Wakefield and Saugus at rmazz@cityofmelrose.org or call 781-979-4187. Please RSVP by May 19.

“Our traditional grave decorating and flag retiring ceremony is one very meaningful way we can come together as a community to honor and remember the courageous men and women of Melrose who served our country,” said Mayor Paul Brodeur. “With hundreds of flags to retire, I invite community members to participate in this ceremony and help show their support for our veterans.”

The City’s Memorial Day Parade will return on Sunday, May 28, 1:30 p.m. All Melrose residents are invited to join the city as it honors local veterans, our nation’s heroes, during the parade and during the city’s other Memorial Day 2023 observances.
