MELROSE — Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Plant) Kelley, of Melrose, died at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham on Sept. 26, 2017 at the age of 75.  Betty was born in South Bend Indiana, raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1960.  She went on to earn her degree from Salem State University, Class of 1964.  Betty resided most of her life in Medford and 20 years in Melrose.

She worked as a first grade teacher for the Medford school system for 38 years before her retirement. Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Melrose for many years and enjoyed reading and  going to the North Shore Music Theatre. She loved her four sheep dogs, family gatherings, enjoyed spending her time with her family and many long term friends , and had a “Great Laugh”.

Betty was the loving daughter of the late Thomas L. & Elizabeth M. (Kenefick) Plant. Caring sister of Barbara A. Plant of Melrose.  Niece of Gertrude Edgeworth and Margaret Kenefick, both of Burlington.  Godmother of Ellen Harrington of Woburn.  Also survived by many cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 4 – 7 p.m.  Funeral procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose at 10 a.m.  Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.  Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 125 S.
