Enjoyed spending time with family on the Cape and in Maine
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Evelyn Lorraine Quigley, 96, of South Portland, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2022 at the Springbrook Center in Westbrook, Maine.
Evelyn was born on October 29, 1926 in Medford; the daughter of Warren J. and Katherine F. (Donovan) Minkle. She graduated from Melrose Hospital School of Nursing, 1947, and entered the WWII Cadet Nursing Corps on November 22, 1944, when she was 18 years old. She married her childhood sweetheart, Bill, after his discharge from the Marine Corps in 1949.
Evelyn was a registered nurse for several years before leaving the profession to care for her growing family. She raised their children in eastern MA including Stoneham and spent summers on Cape Cod. Upon her husband’s retirement they moved to Maine. She was the wife of William P. Quigley for 57 years before his death in 2007. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on the Cape in early years, and also at camp in Wellington, Maine.
She leaves her four sons, Mark Quigley of Skowhegan, Maine, Jon Quigley and his wife, Connie of South Portland, Maine, Thomas Quigley and his wife Diane of Tewksbury, William Quigley Jr. and his wife Tanya of Harmony, Maine, and daughter-in-law Louise Quigley of Melrose, the wife of her late son, Robert Quigley; 13 grandchildren, Christy and her husband Chaska Bartow, Jill Quigley and partner Ryan Fraze, Caroline and her husband Matthew Phillips, Kevin Quigley and his wife Allison, Katherine Quigley, Jennifer Schlebusch and her husband Sebastian, Caitlin Quigley, Meghan Natale and her husband Peter, Bethany Weixler and her husband Christopher, Rebecca Lafortune and her husband Andrew, Kelly Quigley and partner Tori Sousa, Bill Quigley III and partner Jennifer Bailey, and Sydney Quigley; and 12 great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn Bartow, Charlotte, Alden and Mary Kate Phillips, Vivienne Quigley, Emmett and Corbin Wohl, Weston, Christian and Peyton Weixler, Lincoln and Hunter Quigley. Predeceased in infancy was her twin son, Paul, and grandson, Benjamin. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Springbrook Center. There will be a private family interment in South Portland in the spring 2023.
