MELROSE — Gladys E. (Egan) Muse, 90, died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on Nov. 2.
Gladys was born in Melrose on June 18, 1930, to the late Edward and Kathryn Egan. She was raised in Melrose, graduating from St. Mary’s Grammar School and St. Mary’s High School in 1948.
Gladys was a licensed registered nurse who graduated from the Carney School of Nursing in 1950. Mrs. Muse started working at the Carney Hospital, then at Malden Hospital for a few years and later as an ICU nurse at MelroseWakefield Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1991.
After retirement, she and her late husband, Herbert, enjoyed spending winters in Florida in Clearwater and then in Fort Myers. Gladys loved going to all her children’s sporting events and watched every Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots game.
She was an avid reader and loved going to bingo. But above all, she cherished the times spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gladys was the beloved wife of 50 years of the late Herbert G. Muse. Loving mother of Jack Muse and his wife Denise of Middleton, Bill Muse and his wife Patricia of Merrimac, Dan Muse and his wife Heather of Melrose, Patricia Deasy and her husband Francis of Quincy and Jim Muse and his wife Flicker of Pennsylvania. Caring sister of the late Sister Catherine Egan H.C.J., Edward Egan and Harold Egan. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Friday, Nov. 6, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St. Melrose, on Friday at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
