MELROSE — Margaret E. “Peggy” Kiatos, 78, longtime Melrose resident, died on Tuesday, December 5, at her home.

Born on March 3, 1939 in Winchester, one of eight children of the late William H. and Elsie M. (Prescott) Rogers. Peggy grew up in Winchester and Malden in a large and close family. She was especially close to her sister Ruth. She graduated from Malden High School. Upon graduation Peggy went to work at the Telephone Company.

After deciding to go to a dance at The Lithuanian Club, she met the love of her life, Richard S. Kiatos. They were married on September 8, 1963. After getting married they spent a short time in South Boston before moving to her beloved Melrose in 1968. She loved her Pearl Street neighbors, and the friendships they developed and maintained through the years was very important to her.

Peggy’s greatest love was her family. She was very active in her children’s lives. She never missed a sporting event, concert, or school function. She was without a doubt, their biggest fan. She was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader, enjoyed a good game of candlepin bowling, and had a love of Disney World and all the Disney characters.

When the children were little, Peggy and the family enjoyed their summer trips to Sebago Lake in Maine. Later in life, she and Richard enjoyed taking bus trips to Canada and Lake George, and the occasional cruise. As her family spread out, Peggy would look forward to her trips to Florida and New Jersey for some relished family time. She truly lived for her grandchildren.

A special woman has left an indelible mark on those she loves, and the memories will live on with her cherished family and Pearl Street neighbors for years to come.
