THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Warren J. George, 73, a retired Melrose firefighter, passed away at Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages, Florida, on December 6, 2017. 

Warren was born and raised in Malden, graduated from Malden Vocational School and was a resident of Melrose for 39 years before moving to Florida seven years ago. Mr. George joined the Melrose Fire Department in 1968 and worked in the department for 34 years before retiring as a Lieutenant in 2002. Prior to joining the fire department Warren worked at Continental Can and at Friends Beans and while he was on the department he worked at Wakefield Brake for 18 years and ran his own painting company for many years.

Mr. George enjoyed playing cards, loved playing fantasy football, and was a huge New England Patriots fan. He was a former member of the Wyoming Lodge of Masons in Melrose, loved going to the beach and taking trips to York Beach, Maine and traveling to Aruba for 20 years, where he developed many lifelong friends. But above all, his love for his family was most important of his life.

Warren is the beloved husband of 52 years to Nancy M. (Hagen) George. He was the loving father of Kimberly A. Bonin and her husband Michael of Newton, N.H., Diana M. Grigoreas and her husband Bill of Farmington, N.H., and Kevin D. George and his wife Donna of Melrose. He was the cherished grandfather of Deena Meehan, Katelyn Bonin, Joshua Bonin and Andrew J. George. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Aydin, Giovanni and Josiah and the caring brother of Lawrence George, Nancy Barbuto, Marcia Eddy, the late Lydia Barbrick, David Morse and Diane Frazier. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thursday, December 14. A funeral service will be held at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St. Melrose, on Friday, December 15, at 10 a.m., followed by a burial at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
