MELROSE — Margaret H. (Hines) McKean, 80, of Melrose, died at the Life Care of Stoneham on January 19, 2018.

Margaret was born and raised in Roxbury and a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. She resided in Dorchester for five years and the past 53 years in Melrose. Margaret worked as a Secretary for American Mutual Insurance Company in Wakefield for 16 years before her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Melrose for over 50 years and loved crossword puzzles, reading and going out for breakfast with her family. Margaret enjoyed going on a cross country road trip in 2004 and also trips to Bermuda, Florida, Nevada and Canada.

She was the beloved wife of the late James D. McKean for 44 years. Devoted daughter of the late Wallace and Lena (Hicks) Hines. Loving mother of Helena A. Bender and her husband Christopher of Tewksbury, James D. McKean, Jr., of Arkansas, Nancy J. McKean of Melrose and the late Edward P. McKean. Cherished grandmother of Mark and Sean Bender of Tewksbury. Caring sister of Arthur Hines and his wife Rose of Buzzards Bay and the late Joseph, Roy and Bernard Hines and Theresa Foley. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Jan. 22. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 23, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
