WILMINGTON — MaryLou (Shelton) McCarthy, a resident of Wilmington, passed away on December 21, 2017. MaryLou was born in Melrose to the late John P. Shelton and Eleanor (Culinane) Adams. MaryLou was raised and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1968, and Chamberlayne Junior College with an Associate degree in accounting. MaryLou worked in accounting departments for such companies as Office Specialist and Randstad.

MaryLou had a passion for animals and, along with her husband Chris, owned many dogs from bull mastiffs to her final dog, a Chihuahua.

MaryLou was predeceased in death by her husband, Christopher, her father, John P. Shelton, mother, Eleanor L Adams and sister Nancy. MaryLou is survived by her brother John and his wife Sandra of Wakefield, nephew John Shelton and his wife Colleen of Wakefield, niece Allison Wright of Marshfield, nephew Andrew Shelton and his wife Christine of Wilmington, nephew Benjamin Dempsey of Jacksonville, Fla., and niece Victoria Rothey of Tampa, Fla. MaryLou is also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wednesday, December 27.  A funeral service was held at the Gately Funeral Home on Thursday, December 28, followed by an interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose on December 28.
