MELROSE — Mona T. (Keohan) Gustafson, 92, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018.

Mona was born in Melrose on November 7, 1926 to the late Phillip and Helen (Aylward) Keohan. She was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1944. Mona married the late Carl F. Gustafson Sr. in 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Melrose. They continued to live in Melrose and raised their family there. Mona worked as a CSP Technician at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for 30 years and still had many friends from her time working there.  

She was a true matriarch of her family and was always there for anyone who needed help. Mona always made the holidays a wonderful time, all were welcome. She was terrific at sewing and often made many of the clothes for her children by hand. Mona was a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother, she cherished the time she had with them. She loved her family with all of her heart and they will all miss her dearly.  

Mona was predeceased by her loving husband, Carl F. Gustafson Sr., and her son Carl F. Gustafson Jr. Beloved mother of Gayle Peterson of Melrose, Andrea Hamilton and her husband Patrick of Hudson, N.H., Sonja Derrico-Tricomi and her husband Vincent of Stoneham, Karin Narkun and her husband John of Wakefield, and her niece Pamela Hogan Rose. Beloved longtime partner, friend, and companion of John Logue of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Stärk and his wife Jennifer, Jennifer and her husband Martin, Mack and his wife Jessica, Meredith and her husband Brian, Solen and her husband Joshua, Carla and her husband Shawn, and Eric and his fiancée Allison. Proud great-grandmother of Eli, Amaya, Abigail, Aven, Margaret, Cameron, and Rowen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3 from 4-8 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 4 at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Burial to follow at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
