MELROSE — Raymond A. “Ray” Letterie, 61, of Melrose, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a lengthy illness on Oct. 22, 2018.

Ray was born in Lowell, raised in Melrose and a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1976. He resided in Melrose for most of his life and worked as a Manager of Cushing Manor Nursing Home in Dorchester for many years. Ray loved to work or, as he called it, “play in the yard,” gardening and working on his 1969 Ford Mach1 that he had for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time at the family home in Hull and also walking his grandson Logan to school and socializing with the other parents.

Ray was the husband of Laurie (MacDonald) Letterie of Melrose for 30 years. Loving father of Ashley E. Bailey and her husband Shayne of Melrose and Matthew R. Letterie of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Logan and Mackenna. Brother of Ernest Letterie of Va. and Gloria Hernon of Methuen. Also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, Oct. 26 from 8:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private.
