BEVERLY — Richard M. Morrissey, 95, died at his home in Beverly on February 10, 2020.

He was born in Charlestown on July 13, 1924 to the late Richard and Mary (Ricketts) Morrissey. Richard was raised in Charlestown, graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston before entering the U.S. Navy. Mr. Morrissey served his country with pride in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy he joined the Boston Fire Department. Richard was a Boston Firefighter for 40 years from 1949-1989; serving first on Ladder 22 in Charlestown, then on Pump Engine 50 in Charlestown and later as a LT on the Fireboat in Boston Harbor before retiring. Mr. Morrissey also worked a side job wallpapering and painting to support his family.

He and his late wife Mildred, who passed away on November 12, 2019, moved to Melrose in 1966 and then to Beverly in 2015. Richard enjoyed taking bus trips with his wife, enjoyed walking all over the City of Melrose daily and enjoyed playing golf at Mount Hood Golf Course in Melrose with his friends. Mr. Morrissey could always be found working around his home; always fixing something or outside working on the landscaping. He was also a big Boston Red Sox fan and was a regular blood donor at the Red Cross.

Richard was the beloved husband of 68 years to the late Mildred A. (Tryder) Morrissey. Loving father of Marie Ebersole of Natick, Jeanne Gamble of Beverly, Richard Morrissey and his wife Maureen of Nottingham, N.H., and Christine Morrissey of Beverly. Cherished grandfather of Jay Ebersole and his wife Emma of Attleboro. Also survived by his beloved cat Leonardo.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on, Monday, February 17 from 4 – 7 p.m. Funeral procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday February 18 at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors to follow the Mass at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
