MELROSE — Virginia M. “Ginny” (Kelley) Mitstifer, 74, of Melrose, died at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford on August 20, 2019.

Ginny was born and raised in Melrose and a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1963. She went on to earn her degree from Salem State University in 1967 and her master’s degree from Lesley College. Ginny resided in Melrose for most of her life, was a third grade school teacher at the Lincoln School in Melrose for over 35 years before her retirement and loved having family and friends over for the holidays.

She enjoyed baking her famous lemon meringue pie, walking, going out to dinner with her friends and spending time with her husband Tom’s family in Liberty, Pa. “It is rare to find a person who not only accepts you for what you are but makes you feel good about yourself.” This is truly Ginny. She was the ultimate loyal friend, a true professional with a heart of gold, always there to lend a helping hand to all in need.

Ginny was the beloved wife of Tom W. Mitstifer for 50 years. Loving mother of Kevin Mitstifer of Hudson, N.H. Caring sister of Kathleen Constantino of Wakefield, Kevin Kelley of Groveland (formerly of Melrose) and the late Thomas Kelley, Patricia Maffe, Gerald Kelley, Lawrence Kelley, Charles Kelley and Eileen Kelly. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, August 27, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
