Michael-Hallett-obit-webMELROSE — Michael E. Hallett, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away surrounded by his loving family at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on Sunday, Jan. 3 at age 61.
Born in Medford on Aug. 25, 1954, Michael was raised in Somerville and was one of four children of the late Malcom and Helen (Wall) Hallett. He graduated and played baseball at Somerville High School and Mass Bay Community College. Mike settled in Melrose with his family in 1993, where he owned and operated the Michael E. Hallett Cleaning Co.
Starting out as a young teen washing windows, Mike learned the cleaning trade from his uncle and built a successful window and gutter cleaning business with customers throughout Eastern Massachusetts. Mike took great personal pride in doing the best cleaning job he could for his customers. His hard work and genuine attitude paid off, as many of his customers became longtime repeat clients. His employees were some of his oldest friends who became like family and extensions of him on the job. Mike, up until his passing, was still providing the same honest, reliable cleaning service he was known for. On a personal level, Mike was one of a kind. With his quick wit and love for telling stories, he made a mark on nearly everyone he met and many of those people became good friends.
Above all else, Mike was a family man who was happiest spending time with his wife and children. When his children were younger, he took great pleasure in attending all of their sporting events and loved coaching Jason’s baseball teams. More recently, his pride and joy was his one and only granddaughter, Sophia. Mike’s love and the impact he had on his family and friends will continue on in their hearts.
Mike was the beloved husband of 30 years to Ann Ciraolo-Hallett. He was the devoted father of Maria L. Hallett of Arlington, James M. Hallett of Sarasota, Fla., Jason R. Hallett and his fiancé Courtney Dowd of Melrose and Amanda R. Hallett of Melrose. He was the proud grandfather of Sophia Hallett. He was the caring brother of Priscilla Kinney and her husband Bruce of Lexington; Ann Pike of Medford; and Edward Hallett and his wife Maureen of Cambridge. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, extended family, countless friends and Friend of Bill.
Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Mike’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, Jan. 7, and again on Friday at 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to St. Mary Church, Herbert Street, Melrose for his funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
