Please note: For the past few years, Veterans Day, November 11, has fallen on either a weekend or a Monday, meaning popular Veterans Memorial Middle School observance has been on a Friday during that time. Many local veterans have come to assume the VMMS event is always on a Friday, which is not the case. This is a letter sent by Principal Brent Conway to veterans.

As I begin my new tenure as principal, I hope to carry on Tom Brow’s commitment to our city’s veterans. Therefore, it is my pleasure to invite you to the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School 2014 Veterans Day Assembly, which will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014, at 9 a.m. Our school has a proud and rich annual tradition of honoring and commemorating the contributions of our country’s living veterans.

This year’s assembly will also include a procession and posting of the Nation’s colors (American Flag), the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, the singing of the National Anthem by a very young talented singer, special musical selections performed by our students, an introduction of our special guests, two student readings about Veterans Day, a moment of silence, and a rendition of “Taps.”

The assembly will be held in the auditorium at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 350 Lynn Fells Parkway, Melrose, MA. Parking is available along the Lynn Fells Parkway. There are also handicapped spots closer to the school in the parking lots. Coffee and a full breakfast will be served in the atrium lobby café, across from the auditorium at 8:00 a.m. We are asking all our guests to please be sure to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m.

I hope you will be able to attend the assembly. Please call 781-979-2100, by Wednesday, November 5, 2014, to let us know whether or not you will be in attendance. We would like to know how many guests will be attending so we can prepare. I hope you can join us. I look forward to seeing you at our assembly, so that we may carry on this time honored tradition of the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.

Sincerely,

Brent Conway

Principal
