Avid boater, member of Coast Guard Auxiliary

NORTH READING — Mitchell G. Akel, of North Reading, passed away June 11. He was the beloved son of the late John and Najla Akel. He was the brother of the late Madeline May Hashem and his late niece Denise Parks. Mitchell is survived by his dear sister Dolores (Akel) Parks and nephews John J. Hashem Jr., Stephen and Kenneth Parks; nieces Diane (Hashem) Thornton, Michelle (Parks) Faugno and Janine Parks. Mitchell is also survived by many loving grand–nieces and grand–nephews.

Mitchell was born and raised in Boston and was a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology where he received a degree in Drafting. He worked at Stone & Webster, Greater Lawrence Voc. Tech and Liberty Chevrolet. Mitch was an avid boater, longtime member of the Town River Yacht Club, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Shriners, Masons, Eastern Star and a frequent blood donor at the American Red Cross.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass for Mitchell in St. Theresa Church, 63 Winter St. (Rte. 62), North Reading on Friday, June 17 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation with the family will be held in the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., (corner of Park Street and Rte. 28), North Reading, at Reading line on Thursday from 4–7 p.m. Interment will be private.
