LYNNFIELD — Thirteen members of the Lynnfield High girls’ indoor track and field team participated in the Division 5 state meet on Feb. 14 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Although the team did not score any points (only the top eight finishers in each event score points), they did have some solid performances.

Gabby Bottaro had the team’s best finish as the junior placed 18th in the mile with a time of 5:59.24.

Senior Viola Wertz captured 22nd in the two mile at 13:43.02.

Caitlin Buonconti, a junior, came in 26th in the 1,000-meters at 3:31.98 while sophomore, Hannah Ozanian, was 25th in the 300-meters at 45.28.

In the 600-meters, Lauren Mattia had a personal-best time of 1:50.19 to come in 27th while junior, Kaila George, was 35th at 1:52.91.

“Lauren is only a freshman so she had an awesome performance,” stated Lynnfield head coach  Adam Dell’Aria. “There were only six other freshmen ahead of her.”

Most of the 74 teams there did not score as only 37 actually scored points.

“I was happy the girls got the experience,” said Dell’Aria “The only senior we had was Viola because we have such a young roster.”

In the regular season, the Pioneers finished in third place in the Cape Ann League Baker Division going 2-2 overall.
