WAKEFIELD — For the first time in many years, if ever, the Warrior boys’ tennis team played a night match at Dobbins Courts when it took on rival Melrose last Thursday.

The different time didn’t help Wakefield win the match, however, as the Warriors were blanked by the Red Raiders by a 5-0 score.

Wakefield is 3-10 on the season with three more contests remaining.

At first singles, junior James Hanron faced Julian Nyland and dropped a 2-6, 4-6 decision.

Noah Sellers, a junior, took on Jack Mays at second singles and was blanked by an 0-6, 0-6 tally.

Zack Covelle, a junior, squared off against Sean Donovan at third singles. Covelle lost a 4-6, 1-6 contest.

At first doubles, senior Matt Hoenig and freshman Jon Stumpf were pitted against the Melrose duo of Sam Stallings and Caleb Zimmerman. Hoenig and Stumpf suffered a 1-6, 1-6 setback.

Wakefield had a different combination at second doubles with Ben Wright and Akash Altman, both seniors, being teamed together. They took on the Red Raider tandem of Liam Singleman and John O’Connell. Wright and Altman dropped a 1-6, 1-6 decision.

The Warriors face Burlington this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Rahanis Park.
