NORTH READING — It was a heartbreaking loss for the North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team on Monday afternoon as they were edged, 6-5, by visiting Medford in a non-league game. With that defeat, the Hornets fell to 4-5 overall.

Logan Lamont cut the Mustangs lead to one with 1:48 left in the game but two late penalties in the game’s final minute allowed Medford to run out the clock.

“We struggled offensively,” admitted Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “We were tentative with the ball until late in the game when we made our comeback.”

Medford led 4-0 at the half and the Mustangs were up 5-0 before the Hornets finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter.

North Reading continued to chip away in the fourth quarter but simply ran out of time.

Lamont led the offense with two goals and two assists. Finn Rodger, Conrad Gerber and Brendan Gazda had the three other goals.

Hornet goalie David Tran made seven saves.

On Monday, the Hornets blasted host Revere, 17-0, in another non-league game.

“They are a young team that has a not-so-strong feeder program,” pointed out Campobasso.

North Reading led this one, 9-0, at the half as the bench got considerable playing time in the second half.

Nick Arcari led the offense with five goals while Gazda had three. Anthony Tammaro and Lamont both scored twice.

Single Hornet goals were scored by Rodger, Tanner DuPriest, Logan Pemberton, Brayden Carlson and Ryan Lehane.

For Pemberton, Carlson and Lehane, it was their first-career goals.

Tran played the first half in net making four stops. Tripp Harrington then made his season debut in net in the second half and he turned back three shots to preserve the shutout.

On May 2, the Hornets will have their Senior Night as they welcome Triton at 6 p.m. Before the game the three Hornet 12th-graders and team manager will be honored.

The next day, they visit Newburyport at 4:30 p.m. On May 7, they face rival Lynnfield at UMass-Lowell with that game taking place at 6 p.m. North Reading is the home team for that game.
