AMESBURY — The North Reading High boys’ tennis team won at Amesbury, 5-0, on Monday afternoon. With the victory, the Hornets improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Cape Ann League.

At first singles, Roman Ton won, 6-1, 6-0, Second-singles player, Parker Lee won, 6-0, 6-3. while Sameer Murthy won, 6-2, 6-1, at third singles.

In doubles play, the first team of Ricky Ho and Raffi Toby won in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The second duo of John Pastore and Aiden Patel also won in thee sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

“It is a work in progress for our doubles teams,” admitted Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano. “They have to continue not to give points away and make the right decisions.”

On April 26, the Hornets lost at Newburyport, 4-1.

Ton was the team’s lone winner as he won, 6-3, 6-2. Lee fell 3-6, 6-2, 10-7, as they played a 10-game tiebreak since the overall match was already decided by that point.

Murthy lost with matching 6-2 scores at third singles.

Ho and Toby fell, 6-1, 6-3, while Pastore and Patel also lost in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.

On April 27, North Reading hosted the Cape Ann League Open. This was the first CAL Open since 2019 due to the pandemic

“It went very well,” stated Bisognano. “We had seven of the nine schools show up and the weather turned out nice.”

Manchester-Essex won the event with 16 points while North Reading finished in fourth place with six points.

Ton got four of them by coming in second place in the first singles final. Ho and Toby had the two other points as they came tied for third place in the first doubles event.

On May 2, the Hornets visit Pentucket. They then host Rockport on May 6th.

Both of those matches will start at 4 p.m.
