BOSTON — Led by the 4×200 Meter Relay team of Drew Fitzgerald, Torin Nickerson, Anthony Corvino and Logan Lamont, the NR Boys’ Indoor Track team had a strong day at the Small School Freshman/Sophomore Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday, Jan. 8. The relay squad took home 4th place in a time of 1:44.83.

“This is a nice indicator that we have a strong crop of young athletes who will be able to positively impact our program in the coming years,” said Hornets head coach Ryan Spinney. “Each of the relay members had strong individual races as well. Very positive day for our program.”

Logan Lamont took home another 4th place medal with his 1:34.06 time in the 600 Meter Run.

“Logan is just scratching the surface of his potential as a mid-distance runner. He has speed, runs tough and hates to lose. That is a perfect combination for success in the mid-distance events,” said Spinney.

In the 55 Meter Hurdles, Torin Nickerson and Michael Mahoney both had personal bests in the event. Nickerson ran 10.65 (12th overall) and Mahoney ran 11.44 (15th overall).

“Torin and Michael are really coming along in the hurdles. They work really hard at it and are starting to see how important the proper steps and technique work are to succeeding in the event. As 9th graders, they are really showing that they could be something special in the years to come,” said Spinney.

In the 55 Meter Dash, Anthony Corvino ran a personal best of 7.37, which placed him 15th overall.

“Anthony is a talented athlete and has potential to be a very strong sprinter if he continues working hard,” said Spinney.

In the 300 Meter Dash, Drew Fitzgerald had a major breakthrough in the event as he had a huge personal best with a time of 42.09, which placed him 13th overall in the event.

“Drew is a very hard working young man. He wants to be a good sprinter and contribute to the team. He is certainly showing how strong effort pays off,” said Spinney.

The Hornets will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 12 with the full squad as they finish their regular season meet schedule against Lynnfield at the Reggie Lewis Center.
