NORTH READING — Last Friday’s snowstorm delayed the curbside pick up of Christmas trees by JRM throughout town on Saturday, Jan. 8. Therefore, the pick-up was postponed to this Saturday, Jan. 15.

Trees must be curbside by 6:30 a.m. with all tinsel, ornaments and lights removed. Also, trees covered in snow will not be picked up.

Expect weekly trash delays

In the coming weeks, the town is advising residents to anticipate delays in the weekly trash and recycling collection by JRM.

When delays occur and trash barrels and/or recycling bins remain uncollected after dark, residents are asked to leave them curbside for pick-up the next day.

“The town anticipates that due to COVID-19-related staffing shortages experienced by JRM, extended wait times at the trash disposal facility, and the reduced number of daylight hours during the winter months, trash and recycling collection will take more than one day in the upcoming weeks,” Town Administrator Michael Gilleberto told the Select Board Monday night.

If trash has not been collected by 2 p.m. the day after scheduled collection, residents are asked to contact the Department of Public Works at 978-357-5260 for pick up arrangements to be made.

MLK Jr. holiday

Additionally, since Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 17, trash and recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day. Residents should put their trash and recycling bins curbside by 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
