NORTH READING — After having the April Vacation Week off, the North Reading High girls’ lacrosse team returned to action on Tuesday as they hosted Pentucket.

The Hornets ended up losing 15-3 to the Panthers as their record dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Cape Ann League.

Pentucket improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the CAL.

“They have been a fantastic program the past several years and they took advantage of some of our mistakes,” said Hornets head coach Matt Costello.

The Panthers took control of this game early as they led 8-0 at the half.

North Reading did outscore the Panthers 3-1 in the third quarter but the guests then scored the game’s final six goals in the fourth quarter.

Alaina Driscoll was the bright spot for the Hornets scoring all three goals.

“She has been awesome so far,” said Costello, about the sophomore attacker. “She works very hard.”

Hornet goalie, Kaitlyn Supple, made 10 saves.

Despite the loss, Costello was pleased with the play of midfielders Lindsey Rosenthal and Addison Hajj along with Driscoll.

The Hornets visit Ipswich on April 25 at 6 p.m. for a game dedicated to Mental Health Awareness.

North Reading then hosts Bedford at 10 a.m. on April 27 in a non-league contest.

On April 29, the Hornets visit Wilmington at 4 p.m. in another non-league game.

The Hornets then play their third-straight, non-league contest on May 1 as they welcome Winthrop at 5:30 p.m. That will be the team’s Senior Day as the three Hornet seniors will be honored before the game.

“May gets tough to schedule so that is why we were doing Senior Day so early in the season,” explained Costello.
