WEST NEWBURY — It was a good first half for the North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon as they led host Pentucket 4-3 at halftime up in West Newbury.

However, the host Panthers took control in the second half and defeated the Hornets, 13-5, as they outscored North Reading 10-1 in the second half.

“We played a lot of defense in the first half and it caught up to us in the second half,” pointed out Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “We were worn down.”

The Panthers controlled the draw controls and the territorial play in the second half putting the Hornet defense on their heels.

With the loss, the Hornets’ record fell to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Cape Ann League. Pentucket, meanwhile, improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.

“They are a well-disciplined team and they beat us to most of the 50-50 ground balls,” said Campobasso.

P.J. Conte led the Hornets offense with two goals while Logan Lamont had one goal and one assist. Nick Arcari and C.J. Villarroel both scored once.

Brendan Gazda led the team in assists with three while Finn Rodger had one.

Hornet goalie David Tran, made 13 saves.

North Reading will host Ipswich on April 24 at 4:30 p.m. They then welcome Revere for a non-league matchup on April 27 at noon.

The Hornets then play another non-league game on April 30 as they host Medford with that game starting at 4:30 p.m.
