DANVERS — Hamilton-Wenham came into their matchup with the NRHS boys’ tennis team on May 24 at Danvers High with its only loss coming to CAL frontrunners Lynnfield.

Roman Ton picked up the only point for the Hornets in a hard fought three setter at third singles 7-5, 4-6, 12-10.  He won in a super-tiebreak as CAL rules allow for a super-tiebreak in lieu of a third set when the overall match is already decided.

Ton is 5-1 on the season and 5-0 at third singles with his only loss at second singles.

“Roman has had a great freshman year so far and we will need him to continue his high level of play for the team to have as successful a season as possible,” said head coach Mark Bisognano.

At second singles, Jonathan Belinowiz suffered a tough luck 7-5, 7-5 defeat in a tremendous back-and-forth affair.

“Jonathan played very well and if a couple key points went his way he could have very easily ended up winning this match in straight sets,” said Bisognano.

Jordan Hemley was bested at third singles 6-1, 6-3. The two doubles teams ran into powerful duos. The Generals won both matches handily over Adin Shore and Jonathan Park. 6-1, 6-0 and Ryan Kay and Chris Mangano 6-2, 6-1. North Reading dropped a 3-2 nail biter to Manchester-Essex on Tuesday, bringing their record to 3-4 overall. The Hornets travel to CAL-best Lynnfield on Tuesday, June 8 at 4 p.m.
