LYNNFIELD — It was a battle of the unbeatens on Sept. 19 as the North Reading High boys’ soccer team visited rival Lynnfield in a much-anticipated night game.

Both teams stayed unbeaten as the game ended in scoreless tie.

“It was a playoff atmosphere,” said Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano. “There was a nice crowd with the girls teams playing before us.”

With the tie, the Hornets record went to 5-0-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

“I thought that we came out too jacked up and we were too direct with our attack bypassing the midfield area,” said Bisognano. “I thought we played very well in that second half and controlled the play.”

Lynnfield was without their top scorer ,Dylan Reilly, who got injured in the pre-season and they lost several key seniors from last year’s Division 4 state title team.

“They are still a solid team with good athletes and a strong goalkeeper,” said Bisognano.

North Reading had nine shots on goal while the Pioneers had four as Cam Parrett made the four stops to record the shutout.

Parrett is 5-0-1 in net as that was his second shutout of the year.

The Hornets’ next game is on Sept. 26 as they host Rockport at 4:45 p.m.

North Reading then plays its first non-league game of the fall as they host Weston at 1 p.m. on Sept. 28.

They return to Cape Ann League action on Oct. 1 as they travel to Danvers to take on Essex Tech. That game will start at 4:30 p.m.
