NORTH READING — Despite losing two of the best players in North Reading girls’ tennis history to graduation, new head coach Matt Tiberii still has plenty of returning talent to work with in 2018.

Tiberii is a 1994 graduate of NRHS and comes to the Hornets after spending the last two seasons as the head boys’ tennis coach at Austin Prep. While at Austin, he guided the Cougars to two consecutive Catholic Central League titles and compiled a record of 31-12. This will be his third season coaching high school tennis.

The team will be led by immensely talented senior tri captains, Tia Campagna, Alexa Galuppo and Megan Landers who have been key cogs for the previous three seasons. Senior Kylie Scher also returns and in the words of Tiberii will be a “huge asset for us.”

Campagna will compete at second singles and Galuppo will team up with Landers at first doubles.

“I’m really looking forward to watching Alexa and Megan this season because of their consistency and leadership,” said Tiberii.

Scher will compete at third singles.

There is also an influx of new talent at the varsity level. Freshman Ava Czarnota has been so impressive that she will play at first singles. At second doubles, juniors Jillian Coveney and Haley McIntyre will showcase their talents.

With so much talent, Tiberii is ready for the rigors of the season in the always tough Cape Ann League.

“I’m really looking forward to coaching in the CAL. I’m also really excited to begin my career at my alma mater and lead the Hornets girls’ tennis program and can already see it will be a fun season.”
