NORTH READING — In their final game of the regular season on Monday afternoon, the North Reading High girls’ soccer team edged Auburn, 2-1, at home in a non-league contest.
The Hornets finished at 15-1-2 overall with the win.
Julia Scammon scored the game’s first goal heading in a corner kick by Belle Lazure 8:30 into the first half.
That turned out to the be the lone tally of the opening 40 minutes.
Kiersten Higgins, assisted by Allie Lanciani, made it 2-0, 7:16 into the second half.
Auburn (12-3-2) scored at the 75:12 mark as Natalie Frazier scored with Molly Hilditch assisting, but the Hornets were able to hold on the rest of the way.
North Reading goalkeeper, Macy Kurchian, made three saves to finish at 15-1-2 in net.
In the final Cape Ann League game of the season on Oct. 24, the Hornets tied Newburyport, 1-1, at home.
North Reading went 1-0-1 against the Clippers this fall as they won the first meeting 2-1 on Sept. 24.
Both goals came in the second half as Lanciani scored, unassisted, at the 54:32 mark. The Clippers tied it at the 62:50 mark as Aoife Tykulsky found the back of the Hornet net.
Kurchian made seven saves.
North Reading captured the CAL Kinney Division title as they went 13-1-2 in league play.
The Hornets entered this week ranked 6th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings.
The seedings for states come out on Nov. 1 as the Hornets will find out who they will host in the opening game.
