NORTH READING — The traveling public is reminded to expect significant traffic impacts during three major water main replacement projects this spring by the North Reading Department of Public Works:

• Phase 1: North Street from Main Street to Lowell Road

• Phase 2: North Street from Main Street to Moose Hill Access Road

• Phase 3: Mt. Vernon Street from Haverhill Street to Woodland Drive

During the first phase of the project, which began Monday, April 5, the section of North Street between Main Street and Lowell Road will continue to be open to Town Hall and local (abutter) traffic only.

Access to Town Hall will be limited to deliveries, town employees, use of the outside drop-box, scheduled Parks and Recreation programming, and pre-scheduled office appointments.

All other traffic will be detoured around the work area.  At times, travel along Lowell Road near North Street will also be restricted to one direction only.

Pay attention to the instructions provided by the police detail officers.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes that allow them to avoid the work areas.

On Tuesday, Town Hall had to unexpectedly close for the day at 9:30 a.m. due to a rupture of a water main service to the building. Residents are advised to call specific Town Hall departments and leave a message with their questions. An employee will return your call.
