Ligor named Runner of the Meet

BOSTON — On Saturday, Jan. 8, the NRHS girls’ track and field team sent their best to the Reggie Lewis Center to compete in the annual Red Auerbach Freshman-Sophomore Championship.

These meets gather the best 9th and 10th graders in the state and divides them into two separate meets. Divisions 1 and 2 compete in the large school division and Divisions 3, 4 and 5 compete in the small school division. As North Reading High School is in Division 4 they competed in the small school division.

The team did not disappoint as freshman Giuliana Ligor was named Runner of the Meet as she won the 600 Meters in 1:47.60 out of the unseeded heat and anchored her 4×400 meter relay team with a 64 second split moving the team up from 5th place to 2nd place. Ligor also competed in the long jump and took 3rd with a leap of 15’ 9”.

Madison Vant had an impressive day as well as she led off the 4×400 meter relay and also took 3rd in the 55 Meter Hurdles (9.63) and 2nd in the Long Jump (16’ 1.5”) which was an automatic qualifying performance for the state championship.

Joining Giuliana and Maddy on the podium for the 4×400 meter relay (4:32.5) was Isabelle Lazure and Madelyn Arian Aitchison.

The 4×200 Meter Relay also had a great run for their first time competing together. The team of Bella Fischer, Pia Sfikas, Ellie Heintz and Catherine Casey ran a speedy 2:06.34 to win their heat.

Sabrina Mini placed 9th in the Shot Put (26’ 4.5”) which was a personal best throw. Catherine Casey (23’ .5”) also threw her personal best in the Shot Put.

In fact, every single athlete on the team hit personal best marks.: Ellie Heintz (11.18) in the 55 Meter Hurdles; Madelyn Arian Aitchison (8.44) and Bella Fischer (8.82) in the 55 Meter Dash; Isabelle Lazure (47.08) and Despina Sfikas (49.29) in the 300 Meters; Allison Koenig (3:48.29) and Stella DaSilva (4:01.58) in the 1000 Meters and Callie MacLellan (6:15.05) and Charlotte McLaughlin (6:17.19) in the One Mile.
