Beloved by all who knew her

PEABODY — Joan Carol (Lopez) Phelan of Peabody passed away on June 11, 2021 at the age of 74.
Joan was a longtime resident of North Reading. She was born and raised in Somerville and was married for 53 years to her longtime sweetheart. She was the beloved wife of William Phelan Jr. and the devoted mother of William D. Phelan III and his wife, Amy, and John M. Phelan and his wife, Jamie.
She was also the loving daughter of the late John Lopes and Aurore (Levasseur) Lopes and the dear sister of Maureen Longo and her husband, Ernie; Donna Lopes; Roberta Monroe and her husband, David, and Linda Monteith and her husband, Luke. She was the sister-in-law of Susan Buckley and the late Doris Cacciola.
Joan was the cherished grandmother of Katie Morin and her husband, Adam; William D. Phelan IV and Ava; and Grant Phelan. She was the adored great-grandmother of Claire Morin. Joan is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral service was held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Reading on Wednesday, June 16. Relatives and friends visited at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading on Tuesday.
