Retired legal secretary; loved to knit, crochet and dine out

NORTH READING — Virginia C. “Ginny” (Christie) Medeiros, 76, of North Reading, passed away suddenly from a complication of vascular disease at North Shore Medical Center – Salem Hospital, in the early morning hours of Friday, September 21, 2018.

She was brave, made comfortable by the staff, and went peacefully with her son, daughter-in-law, and step-daughter by her side.

Ginny is survived by her beloved husband, Charlie W. Medeiros; her loving son, Charlie H. Medeiros and his fiancé Suzie Shaw of Peabody; her step-daughters, Cheryl Flynn and her husband Michael of Lynn, Wendy Doucette and her husband Kevin of Beverly, and Charlene Peters of St. Helena, California; her step-grandchildren, Sean Flynn, Richard Flynn and his wife Jennifer, Kelley Flynn, Kristin Doucette, Tyler Doucette, and Jake Wortman and his fiancé Katie Geno-Wong; her many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Baxter.

Ginny was born in Lynn on August 7, 1942, the daughter of the late Harry and Barbara (Phipps) Christie. She attended Lynn Public Schools, graduated from Lynn Classical High School and later attended both Salem State College and Emmanuel College. She worked at Lynn City Hall and later was a legal secretary for Massachusetts Attorney General Edward Brooke in the early 1960s. She then began a 25-year career as a secretary at General Electric in Lynn. While working at General Electric, she met her future husband, Charlie, on July 19, 1974, and they were married on May 22, 1981.

Ginny was a kind-hearted woman who loved her husband, son, extended family and her dog Baxter very much. She loved to knit and crochet items for her family members and dog, and enjoyed dining out weekly, spending most Friday nights at her favorite place, the Century House.

Her funeral was held on Tuesday, September 25, from the Solimine Funeral Home, Lynn. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. To offer online condolences, please visit www.solimine.com.
