Lived life to the fullest and championed for many causes

MELROSE — Eleanor Tinsley of Melrose passed away on November 24, 2021. She was born in Teaneck, N.J. on October 5, 1935 to Ruth and Gervaise Tinsley.

Ellie, as some of her friends knew her, was a graduate of the New School for Social Research in NYC and taught for many years in the Town of North Reading and later for Wang Laboratories. She eventually started her own business in the cities of Lawrence and Haverhill.

Along with her commitment to family, Eleanor lived her life to the fullest, championed causes she believed in, served as the President of The League of Women Voters and was head of volunteers for the Castle Hill Chamber Music Festival in the town of Ipswich. She was an avid tennis fan and bridge player and organized bridge weekends in Vermont for many years.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Roger Hecht, grandson Benjamin Hecht, and sister Jeanne Gunion all of Melrose; niece Barbara Gunion of Aurora, Colorado, and nephew Bob Gunion of Aix-en-Provence, France.
