NORTH READING — North Reading has established an 8 a.m. tradition for Thanksgiving morning and that is the annual Turkey Trot 5K run and 1.75 mile walk.

“Fifteen hundred of your closest friends and neighbors start the day with you at the starting line outside Ipswich River Park,” notes Race Director Joe Davis. “It is the true meaning of community.”

Last call for sponsors

This year marks the 10th anniversary of what started out as a “fun run.” With a first-year goal of attracting 100 runners, the race has ballooned to 1,500 runners and garners support of local businesses, including Salon 77, Fit Rev, Farrelly Realty Group, Aesthetic Dentistry, Keyes Family, Classified Realty Group, JJ Fortin Foundation for Autism, Marathon Sports, Art Party with Julia and 15 local families who will be listed on the celebratory shirt. (Five more family sponsorships available).

This is the last call for anyone interested in joining the sponsorship list. All funds raised at this event will be used for sports-related needs as requested by the town’s schools. In addition, two graduating seniors will each receive a $500 scholarship.

The School Challenge

This race features a North Reading School Challenge which awards schools for participation. The Little School has been a force for the past few years but the other elementary schools are in pursuit of the title.

Overall winners will receive the Frederick Keyes Memorial Award.

The race starts and finishes at Ipswich River Park. Promptly at 8 a.m., a sea of runners will be released on the course, regardless of rain, snow, sleet or sun. For more information, visit www.northreadingturkeytrot.com.
