Lifelong Melrose resident a talented baker, afghan maker

 

Buchan-obit-webSTONEHAM — Patricia Louise (Pinkney) Buchan, 83, passed away at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on Jan. 25.

Patricia was born in Melrose on Feb. 23, 1931 to the late Gilbert and Ada (Doucette) Pinkney. She was raised in Melrose, went to St. Mary School and has been a lifelong resident.

Mrs. Buchan worked for 15 years at the Middlesex Fells Nursing Home in Melrose.

She loved to crochet and make afghans and blankets for her family members. Patricia was famous for her gingerbread houses, her baked cookies and homemade whoopee pies. She loved the holidays and enjoyed going to visit her brothers and their families in New Hampshire.

Mrs. Buchan was the beloved wife of the late Andrew Buchan. She was the loving mother of Adrienne Hefler and her husband Les and Jimmy Buchan all of Melrose. She was the sister of Robert Pinkney of New Hampshire and the late Gilbert Pinkney, Regina Robinson, Bertha Bagarella, Barbara Carlucci and Dorothy Johnson. She was the grandmother of Patrick Hefler and his wife Amber Otto of California and Jeffery Hefler and his girlfriend Nicole McCann of Texas. She was the great-grandmother of Henry and Erik Hefler. She is also survived by multiple beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a funeral service at noontime.
