ObitMahoney-webWAKEFIELD — Patricia R. (Ahearn) Mahoney, 73, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9.

Patricia was born on March 31, 1943 in Medford, one of three children of the late John and Marguerite Ruth (Hurford) Ahearn. She was raised in Wakefield, graduated from Wakefield High School and was proud to call Wakefield home. Always independent and a source of strength for her family, Pat raised her three children and worked as a sales representative in manufacturing components for many years.

Pat was blessed with a loving nature and big heart. She was endlessly making new friends, while still maintaining connections with old friends. She was friendly, loved to laugh and was great at having fun. She was very close to her family, especially her brother the late Jack Ahearn whose presence she cherished at home in Wakefield, up camping in New Hampshire or as young siblings spending summers on the water in Marblehead.

Pat brought people together, whether with her family or with her many friends from camping in New Hampshire for winter get-togethers for Chinese food. She endeared herself and shared a laugh with everyone she met, including the doctors and nurses at Mass. General while in treatment. If you listen to Pat, she was the only person to have that much fun going to the doctor’s office. A devoted mother and grandmother, Pat loved being with her family and was always there to support her grandchildren at their games or competitions.

While fun loving, Pat also had a real concern for others. She was a longtime member and volunteer with the North Suburban Family Network, a group that was close to her heart. Pat found great joy in helping people whether through her time running the Custodial Grandparents Group or volunteering with young families and children. Pat was sincere in her desire to help and loved doing it.

Pat’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care and support she received at Mass. General Hospital Cancer Center, as well as in her final days with the Hospice Nurses and staff of Care Dimensions.

Patricia was the devoted mother of Jeanne M. Caraglia and her husband Joseph of Georgetown; Julie M. Paiva and her late husband Brian E. Paiva of Wakefield and John C. Williams of Atlanta, Ga. She was the dear sister of Robert F. Ahearn of Indianapolis, Ind. and the late John J. “Jack” Ahearn. Cherished grandmother of Matthew, Katherine, Jessica, Amanda, Nicholas and great-grandmother of William.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Patricia’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, June 13, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield for her funeral Mass celebrated at 11:30 a.m.

Interment at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
