NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Senior Kevin Russo placed ninth overall in the 2016 New England Track and Field Championship Meet which was held Saturday at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Conn.

Russo threw the javelin 162-8 for his ninth place finish. There were 24 javelin throwers entered in the event.

Winning the event was Billerica senior Connor Finnegan with a distance of 188-0.

Also, Reading’s Mark Porter took eighth with a throw of 162-10 to just edge out his Middlesex League rival.

Taking second through seventh were Jacob Stanko (Manchester Central, N.H., 178-0), Richard Williams (Wethersfield, Conn., 177-0), Jack Weston (Ridgefield, Conn., 174-6), Noah Chartier (Dighton-Rehobeth, 172-7), Jack Pettis (Haverhill, 171-3), and Kyle Fisher (Darien, Conn., 163-7).

Russo has one more meet left. He has qualified for the championship level at Nationals in the javelin. The 2016 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place from June 17-19 in Greensboro, N.C.
