Member of the North Reading Football Hall of Fame

 

Paul-Woods-Obit-webNORTH READING — Paul J. “Buddy” Woods, 65, of North Reading and formerly of Charlestown, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Born in Boston  on Oct. 27, 1949, he was the son of the late John L., Sr. and Ruth (Joyce) Woods. He had lived in North Reading for the past 60 years. He was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1967. He attended Bridgeton Academy in 1968 and was a graduate of Springfield College, Class of 1972.

Buddy was a well known business owner and real estate agent in town. He was a member of St. Theresa Church and the Loyal Order of Moose, No. 1511 in North Reading. Buddy loved football and was well known for his many athletic achievements, he was inducted into the North Reading Football Hall of Fame, Bridgeton Academy Hall of Fame and at Springfield College he was awarded the Defensive Player of the Decade award.

Buddy was a giving, loving person, who would give his last dollar to anyone who needed it. He was especially caring to his family and friends. He was well liked by many and he always had a positive attitude.

Family members include his loving daughter, Casey Woods of Fort Myers, Fla. and his son, Nathan Woods of Dracut; his brothers, John L. Woods Jr. and William Woods Sr., both of North Reading and Daniel Woods and his wife Nancy of Lawrence; sisters, Marsha Pierce and her husband Arthur of Palm Bay, Fla., Ruth A. Lucci and her husband Anthony of North Andover and Kathleen Roberts and her husband Richard of North Reading; his long time friend, Beth Jones of Merrimac and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas and Michael Woods.

His funeral was held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Wednesday, April 29 followed by a funeral Mass at St. Theresa Church, 63 Winter St., North Reading.
