Outstanding WHS athlete, business executive

 

NEWBURYPORT — Paul R. Bugli, 58, of Newburyport and formerly of Wakefield, passed away on September 5 after a courageous and hard-fought 14-year battle with cancer.

He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 30, 1955, Paul was raised in Wakefield. He was the proud and loving son of Evelina L. Bugli and the late Albert R. Bugli.

He is a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1974, where he was a standout athlete in football, track and field. To this day, Paul holds the Wakefield High School record in the discus with a distance of 176’1”.

Paul is a graduate of the Villanova University School of Business, Class of 1978. He was a three-year starting offensive guard for the Division 1 Villanova Wildcats.

After graduating from Villanova, Paul enjoyed a successful career as a senior business executive, including 33 combined years with Automatic Data Processing and Paychex, Inc.

Throughout his career, Paul was particularly proud of, and known for, his development and mentorship of many young business professionals, his motivational character, and unparalleled leadership qualities.

Paul’s greatest joy in life was his family and he was especially proud to be “Pop-Pop”. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Kathryn Ann Bugli; son Christopher Paul Bugli, his wife, Amanda, and their children William and Olivia; and son Jonathan Paul Bugli and his wife, Lydia. He is also survived by his brother Stephen Albert Bugli, his wife, Paula, and their sons Eric and Gregory.

Calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Parish located at 42 Green St., Newburyport, MA.
