U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II

Paul-woods-Obit-webNORTH READING — Paul Woods, 102, of Stoneham, formerly of Hyannis, North Reading and Somerville and Brooksville, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at the Meadow View Center in North Reading, after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Flora M. Woods.

Born in Somerville on April 11, 1913, He was the son of the late Paul J. and Imelda (Richardson) Woods.

Paul was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran of World War II. He was a Seaman First Class, he served aboard the USS Greensboro in the Mediterranean Sea and off the North Atlantic Coast, his ship was responsible for sinking a German UBoat off the coast of Massachusetts, during his service.

He was a member of the Stoneham Auxiliary Police Department for the Town of Stoneham, while a resident and a member of the Stoneham and Brooksville, Fla. VFW. He was also an Usher and volunteer for Sunday School and the Soup Kitchen for St. John’s Episcopal Church, in Brooksville, Fla., until the age of 97.

Family members include his daughter, Dorothy Steeves Sidebotham of Florida; his three grandchildren, Marc Steeves and his wife Steffanie Sinclair-–Steeves of North Reading, Wendy Steeves of Haverhill and Todd Steeves and his wife Chrissy of Salem, N.H.; five great–grandchildren, Jared Steeves of Haverhill, Erik, Erin, Jessica Steeves and Jacob Sinclair-Steeves, all of North Reading; his nephew, William Bellino and his wife Patricia of Brooksville, Fla.

Funeral services will be private and are under the direction of the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading. Interment will be held in Florida at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice. www.croswellfuneralhome.com.
