PEABODY — The Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading girls’ co-op hockey team went 2-0 last week with wins over Oakmont and Marblehead to improve to 9-5-1 on the season.

The Tanners hosted Oakmont on Saturday, Jan. 25 at McVann-O’Keefe Rink.

Head coach Michelle Roach made some line changes and the girls adjusted quickly and came out with a 4-1 win.

Jeny Collins of NRHS had a shutout in the first period. Audrey Buckley entered the game and a had a strong second and third period between the pipes making many saves.

North Reading’s Sammie Mirasolo netted two goals with assists from Lynnfield’s Chloe Shapleigh and Reilly Ganter and North Reading freshman Jenna DiNapoli scored her 8th of the season, assisted by Lynnfield’s Jenn Flynn. An unassisted goal was scored by Lynnfield’s Carolyn Garofoli.

Strong back-checking by sophomore’s Lily Piscatelli and Ella McTeague helped defense hold strong. Other contributors to this victory were freshman Ella Chase and sophomores Kaila Griffin and Anya Pineo.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, PLNR celebrated their three senior players: Jeny Collins and Sammie Mirasolo of North Reading and Carolyn Garofoli of Lynnfield. Each senior was introduced with a tribute summarizing her hockey career, greeted with a bouquet of flowers and had her photo taken on the red carpet with her coaches and family.

All three players went on to play a very memorable senior night game as each contributed heavily to the team’s 5-0 victory over Marblehead.

Collins had a strong game, making 27  saves and earning her fourth shutout of the season. Garofoli had the assist on the second goal of the night and the program’s all-time leading scorer, Sammie Mirasolo, had another multi-point game with a goal and an assist.

“All three seniors contributed and I’m so happy to see that. They’ve meant so much for us in their four years. I’m proud of the stuff they’ve done and of the stuff they’re continuing to do for our team,” said Roach.

The team is currently 9-5-1 and one point away from what could be PLNR’s fourth straight state tournament run.

Other goals against Marblehead were scored by North Reading’s Ella McTeague (assisted by Lynnfield senior captain Carolyn Garofoli) and Sammie Mirasolo, with a “lift off the ice” pass in the neutral zone from Paige Thibedeau. Lynnfield’s Reilly Ganter scored as did Hannah Gromko (assisted by Mirasolo) and junior captain Jenn Flynn.

The Tanners played Medford on Wednesday night after press time.
