MELROSE — Phyllis A. (Giarratani) Gorman, 81, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Sunday September 13.
Phyllis was born in Boston on July 22, 1934 to the late Nicholas & Catherine (Imbornone) Giarranti. She was raised in the North End of Boston and lived in Somerville for several years before moving to Melrose 40 years ago. Phyllis was a homemaker and had worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance as an insurance processor for several years. Mrs. Gorman was also a talented curtain maker for Moulton’s Curtains on Corey Street in Melrose.
Phyllis was a longtime member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield, was a member of the Ladies Guild at church and the Melrose Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, crocheting and was always up for a car ride to go leaf peeping. Mrs. Gorman also did volunteer work for the United Way.
Phyllis was the beloved wife of 60 years to Richard A. Gorman. She was the loving mother of Karen L. Gorman and her partner Judy Lovejoy of Maine; Frank J. Gorman and his loving companion Alice Valesquez of Tewksbury; Phyllis Ann Constantino and her husband Phil of North Carolina; and Michelle Gorman and her loving companion Brian McCall of Melrose. She was the proud grandmother of Brian, Matthew, Mary, Sean and Audrey. She was the caring sister of Sal, Nina, Mike and Pauline. She is also survived by three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday, September 17. Phyllis’ funeral will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, September 18 at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
