MELROSE — A local 16-year-old will be summonsed to court for allegedly stealing an Apple iPhone from the downtown YMCA Saturday afternoon, October 11.

Police reported around 2:10 p.m. that someone said his smart phone had been stolen from the 497 Main St. facility. The phone was soon tracked to a Goss Avenue residence.

After an investigation, police decided to charge a juvenile with larceny over $250 and malicious destruction of property over $250.

At 3:24 p.m. on October 11, a Nelson Road resident reported that sewage was backing up into a sink inside his home. The DPW was notified and a crew worked to repair a collapsed section of main that had caused a blockage and subsequent back-up.

Also on October 11:

• People reportedly sleeping in a motor vehicle in the Hunt’s Photo parking lot around 7:45 a.m. were sent on their way.

• Police investigated an incident at the Melrose Laundromat around 11:30 a.m. involving a customer who picked up an order and ran out of the building without paying.

• A traffic sign at the corner of Lebanon and Malvern streets was discovered knocked over around 12:45 p.m.

• Police were notified around 9:15 p.m. that a Jeep was driving on Franklin Street heading towards Stoneham in a very erratic manner. An officer checked the area to see if any damaged vehicles could be found. None were, so police called their colleagues in Stoneham to put them on alert.

• An officer was sent to the Winthrop School around 10:35 p.m. after youths were reported in the First Street school yard.

• A Vinton Street woman called police just before 11 p.m. saying someone may be inside her home. Police checked out the situation and found no other people inside.

Following an investigation, police on Thursday, October 9, charged a 29-year-old Wakefield man with larceny under $250 and breaking and entering a vehicle or boat in the nighttime (a felony) following an incident the previous night at Anytime Fitness on Main Street.

Police will summonse the man to court. The Weekly News does not publish the names of people police say they plan to summonse to court.

At 6:53 p.m. October 9, police went to a Converse Lane home after being told someone there had overdosed on drugs.

The Animal Control office was notified of a dead racoon in front of the Veterans Memorial Middle School Friday, October 10, around 7:30 a.m.

A West Wyoming Avenue business reported a suspicious jogger in the area October 10 around 11 a.m. Police said they were unable to locate that person.

A dog reportedly ran away from a Felicia Road home October 10 sometime before 11:05 a.m.

A Bancroft Road resident told police around 1:15 p.m. October 10 that he had been scammed out of money. Police continue their investigation.

Following a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Ashcroft Road and Upham Street October 10 around 3:15 p.m., police charged an 18 year old Sycamore Road woman with the unlicensed operaton of a motor vehicle. Police said they will summonse her to court.

Police were told that someone stuck a gun out  of a car window on Slayton Road October 10 around 3:15 p.m. Police said they were unable to locate the suspect or the vehicle.

At 11:04 p.. on October 10, police were told by a Lynde Street resident that his house had been egged.
